Misa Winter Bluesy Blues

As we're getting closer to In Beauty (a beauty fair that will happen here in Lisbon during the next weekend), I thought I better post Misa Winter Bluesy Blues that I got this year in another fair (Expocosmetics). You see... this is my older unpublished manicure ehehe Actually, you saw glimpses before... but it deserves a post for itself.

Já que estamos perto da In Beauty (próximo fim de semana na Meo Arena), achei por bem postar a minha manicure mais atrasada que foi feita com um verniz comprado na última Expocosmética :p Refiro-me ao verniz Misa Winter Bluesy Blues. Na verdade já viram uma ou duas fotos desta manicure, mas acho que o verniz merecere o seu momento de estrelato ;)

Sadly I did not take pictures of Misa Winter Bluesy Blues alone but you can still see how *amazing* it is! *-* It is a vibrant deep dark rich blue. Confused? I meant it is a dark blue that still looks vibrant and has a deep rich tone to it. Bluesy Winter Blues has a gorgeous squishiness and beautiful shine. Application is perfect and it's almost a one coater. I'm beyond crazy with this shade.. simply superb! Actually, Winter Bluesy Blues is part of the 2014 Winter collection by Misa; it consists in three wintery blue shades and I went to the Misa stand to get them all! Unfortunately, I could only find this one... 

Infelizmente esqueci-me de tirar fotos do verniz Misa Winter Bluesy Blues sozinho, mas conseguem perceber como é *incrível*! O tom azul é rico, profundo, escuro e vibrante ao mesmo tempo *-* A formula é cremosa e cobre as unhas com quase só uma camada. A aplicação é perfeita e o brilho nem se fala! Dinheiro bem gasto! ;) Este Misa faz parte da colecção de Inverno 2014 da marca que é composta por três vernizes azuis invernais. Dirigi-me ao expositor da Misa na Expocosmética com o propósito de "caçar" todas as cores... mas só tinham unzinho... ohh

The single polish in my collection that somewhat resembles Misa Winter Bluesy Blues is OPI Eurso Euro, however they're not dupes because the Misa doesn't have the purple undertone and is a little more darker. About the nail art, all flowers are stamped from Lily Anna 10 plate with El Corazón Prisma 423/33. Are you crazy for deep vibrant blues like this one? Kisses,

O único verniz da minha colecção que sequer se aproxima deste Misa é o OPI Eurso Euro. Contudo, o Misa não tem o subtom roxo e é também ligeiramente mais escuro que o OPI. Relativamente à nail art, as flores pertencem à placa Lily Anna 10 e foram carimbadas com o verniz El Corazón Prisma 423/33. Contem-me, são tão malucas por azuis escuros ricos e vibrantes como este? Revel Nail Chaste & Autumn Dotted Abstract Tree

What if I told you that the nail art I bring you today has already two weeks old? That's right, I'm that late... especially considering it was made for the ANS group challenge. The theme was dotticure and it suited me perfectly because weather was being terrible that week, but lets get on with it ;)

E se vos dissesse que a nail art deste post foi feita há duas semanas?? Pois... é verdade. Estou assim tão atrasada com alguns posts... é o que dá fazer muita coisa ao mesmo tempo (podiam-me pagar para ser blogger, não era tão bom?? ihih). Mas vamos falar de coisas (mais) sérias. Fiz esta nail art para o desafio do grupo ANS do FB cujo tema era "bolinhas". Lembro-me perfeitamente que o tempo estava uma miséria e com a chegada precoce do Outono, nada melhor que representá-lo nas unhas, certo? :)

In that same week I received my new Revel Nail gel polishes and was (still am) ecstatic to play with them! Therefore, this manicure was made using several of their Fall collection polishes :p I started by applying three coats of Revel Nail Chaste, a light beige nude shade that I love. Then, I freehanded the tree using acrylic paint and a striper. Finally, I did several random dots as in abstract leafs with Revel Nail Matrix (green), Lava (red), Solid (gold) and Incline (dark green). As soon as I finished doing dots with a certain color, I cured it under LED light for 30s (you can do UV light for 2min) so as to avoid any smudges. But I still managed to smudge one in my pinky... ah well.

Foi nessa semana que recebi os vernizes gel Revel Nail... impossível não ficar maluca e brincar de imediato com os ditos! :D Daí que toda esta nail art foi feita com vernizes gel Revel Nail da colecção de Outono. Comecei por pintar as unhas com três camadas fininhas do verniz gel Revel Nail Chaste, um nude beige claro que gosto muito. Depois desenhei a árvore com um pincel longo e tinta acrílica castanha. Por fim e com ajuda de um boleador, pintei bolinhas aleatoriamente na árvore, assim em jeito de folhas abstractas. Usei as cores Revel Nail Matrix (verde), Solid (dourado), Lava (vermelho) e Incline (verde mais escuro). Uma nota importante: de cada vez que fiz bolinhas com um verniz gel, curei-o de imediato na lâmpada LED por 30s para evitar que borrassem (podem usar lâmpada UV por 2min). Mesmo assim, borrei uma bolinha no dedo mindinho... enfim.

Revel Nail Review Part I: Application & Brand Presentation

Today I want to talk about a new gel polish brand in the market: Revel Nail! This is an American based brand which offers great quality products for a very competitive price. I honestly was shocked with both qualities... at least around here, affordable products usually translate into a less adequate product. The Revel Nail gel polish is a soak off gel system that provides long lasting results with great shine, as stated by the brand. I will talk about duration and shine in the next review, therefore I'll be focusing in application, brand info and prices in this first review. (Check out part II here) Also, stay tunned for some bottle macros below! :)

Hoje quero falar-vos sobre uma nova marca de verniz gel no mercado, a Revel Nail! É uma marca sediada na América que oferece produtos de alta qualidade por preços competitivos. Sinceramente, fiquei surpreendida com ambas as características porque aqui em PT, preço baixo não é sinónimo de qualidade. Os vernizes gel Revel Nail são um sistema soak off gel que oferecem longa duração com grande brilho. Na próxima review falarei sobre a duração, remoção e brilho; para já dedico esta primeira review à marca em termos de objectivos e preços, bem como à sua aplicação :) (não deixem de ver a parte II da review aqui)

The first bottles released allowed one to see the colors inside. According to the brand, they have two factors that make the formulation more stable than other brands: 1) they use a proprietary photo initiator that minimizes curing in indoors light and 2) a thinly cure layer of the gel helps protect the gel polish in the rest of the bottle. But since American salons keep their gel polish in shelves near the door, where they constantly get sun light, the brand had to produce full black covered bottles. The white light has a wide electromagnetic wave range and only a small part of it is where gel polishes (either LED and UV) cure and work. It is best to keep the polishes safe and they're still stable under indoors light ;)

Nos primeiros frascos de verniz gel lançados pela Revel Nail era possível ver a cor e conteúdo dentro destes. De acordo com a marca, existem dois factores que tornam a formula Revel Nail mais estável que as outras: 1) possuem um foto inibidor que minimiza o tempo de cura na luz interior e 2) forma-se um camada fininha de verniz gel na parte de dentro do frasco que protege todo o seu conteúdo. No entanto, como na América a maior parte dos salões tem os vernizes gel em vitrines junto da porta, tiveram a necessidade de cobrir todo o frasco com uma capa preta. Isto porque a luz solar incidia constantemente nas vitrines. A luz branca compõe o espectro electromagnético que está dividido em várias gamas, sendo que somente duas destas são as que permitem o verniz gel funcionar optimamente quer em forno UV, quer em forno LED. Deste modo, mais vale evitar que o produto seja danificado, mas sabendo que este continua a ser estável na luz interior dos salões :)

Application / Aplicação

The brand advises us to store out Revel Nail gel polishes in the dark and cool places, no surprises here.  Before use, shake/mix colors. Application is the traditional one compared to several soak off gel systems out there, but it is always good to remind you (or to let you know for the first time) of the method:

1. First of all, prepare your nails by filing them, pushing back cuticles and gently buff your nail plate with a white block;
2. Dehydrate your nail with a nail prep;
3. Optional: apply primer only if client is prone to lifting to extend wear time;
4. Apply Revel Nail Base Coat gel polish, seal tip and cure for 2min in UV lamp or 30s in LED lamp
5. Apply a thin coat of your selected Revel Nail color, seal tip and cure for 2min under UV Lamp or 30s under LED lamp; do NOT wipe the tacky layer;
6. Apply second coat of your selected Revel Nail color, seal tip and cure for 2min under UV Lamp or 30s under LED lamp; do NOT wipe the tacky layer;
7. If you need a third coat, repeat the gel Revel Nail gel polish color application and curing time without removing the tacky layer;
8. Apply Revel Nail Top Coat, seal tip and cure it for 2min in UV Lamp or 30s in LED Lamp;
9. Wipe tacky layer from nails using a lint free wipe soaked with gel cleanser and you're good to go!

I followed all the steps above and I'm currently performing the 2-week duration test. It's being hard... I miss doing my nails often! eheh :p Anyway, I will soon let you know about my results and bring you the Fall colection swatches. In the meantime, I had time to enjoy several nail arts with Revel Nail gel polishes before starting the duration test, which you will get to see this week :) For now, I leave you with macro photographs of the entire Fall collection :) Kisses,

A marca recomenda guardar os vernizes gel no escuro e num local fresco; recomenda também misturar/abanar os vernizes gel antes da sua aplicação. Não há nenhuma surpresa aqui. Em termos de aplicação, esta é a tradicional de um sistema soak off gel, mas nunca é de mais recordar os passos de aplicação:

1. Antes de mais, preparar as unhas limando-as, empurrando as cutículas e gentilmente limá-las com um buffer (bloco branco por ex);
2. Desidratar as unhas com um produto adequado;
3. Passo opcional; aplicar Primer se o cliente é propenso a levantar o verniz gel, para aumentar a sua durabilidade;
4. Aplicar a base Revel Nail Base Coat, selar as pontas e curar 2min em lâmpada UV ou 30s na lâmpada LED; NÃO limpar a goma do verniz gel;
5. Aplicar uma camada fininha do verniz gel preferido, selar as pontas e curar 2min sob forno UV ou 30s sob forno LED; NÃO limpar a goma do verniz gel;
6. Aplicar a segunda camada do verniz gel preferido, selar as pontas e curar 2min forno UV ou 30s forno LED; NÃO limpar a goma do verniz gel;
7. Se for necessário uma terceira camada, repetir o passo 5 ou 6;
8. Aplicar o top coat Revel Nail Top Coat, selar a ponta e curar 2min no forno UV ou 30s no forno LED;
9. Limpar a goma do verniz com uma compressa limpa embebida em cleanser adequado e estão prontos para retomar a vossa vida!

Segui todos os passos mencionados acima e estou de momento a fazer o teste de durabilidade de duas semanas. Está a ser difícil... tenho tantas saudades de poder pintar as unhas frequentemente! ehehe :p Mas, não tarda nada terei as minhas conclusões para partilhar convosco assim como swatches da colecção de Outono da marca :) Como tive tempo de desfrutar de algumas manicures com os vernizes gel Revel Nail antes de iniciar o teste, esta semana verão mais posts com nail art relacionados com a marca :) Por agora deixo-vos com fotos macro dos frascos que compões a colecção de Outono :) Beijinhos,

Mollon Pro 199 Beige Amber & 200 Anyx Review & Fall Nail Art

Today I have the first two shades of the Fall collection by Mollon Pro named "Fall Trends" to show you :D It consists in six shades that I consider to be rich and intense. I received this collection in a rainy dark day... it felt so good! *-* eheh I immediately used the purple one, but then I made this Fall nail art with Mollon Pro 199 Beige Amber and 200 Anyx that I rather show you first ;)

Hoje tenho dois vernizes para vos mostrar da nova colecção de Outono da Mollon Pro, intitulada "Fall Trens" :D É composta por 6 tons que considero fortes e intensos, óptimos para a presente estação. Recebi-os num dia escuro, chuvoso e com trovoada... quanta perfeição!! *-* Usei de imediato o roxo, seguido desta combinação que prefiro mostrar-vos antes :) São eles o Mollon Pro 199 Beige Amber e 200 Anyx.

But first, let us talk about the polishes. Mollon Pro 199 Beige Amber is a gorgeous fall nude! I expected to have something similar in my collection, but no, I don't! (how awesome is that??) It has a beige color with brown undertones. Regarding the formula, it is a two coater with a smooth great formula. It is easy to apply and as per usual dries quick. I found that the first coat is a bit patchy, but the second one is perfect. Mollon Pro 200 Anyx ia rich brown polish with god opacity as well. Anyx is special because it is the only one of the collection with shimmer, a golden one as it is. It is more noticeable in direct light. I love it, very suited for this season <3

Mas antes, vamos falar um pouco de cada verniz. O Mollon Pro 199 Beige Amber é o nude da colecção (porque Outono sem nude, não é Outono!!), de tom beige com toque de castanho. Pelas fotos de promoção achei que teria algo similar por aqui... mas não, nada! (como é que é possível?!). A formula é fluida, fácil de aplicar e não escorre para as cutículas. Em termos de opacidade, cobre com duas camadas mas a primeira mancha um pouco. Já o verniz Mollon Pro 200 Anyx tem a mesma formula e seca identicamente rápido e com brilho glossy. É um castanho quente e rico, gostei bastante e acho-o super adequado à estação actual :) O Anyx é especial porque é o único da colecção que possui shimmer -dourado no caso. Este é especialmente visível sob luz directa. 

It's impossible to look at these colors and not combine them! Therefore, I did a nude & brown gradient and almost felt like eating it :p To honor the season, I stamped in brown (Mundo de Uñas Brown) the pattern from Pueen Encore SE02B plate. I loveeed the outcome!

É impossível ver ambas as cores juntas e não pensar logo em combiná-las, pelo menos para mim ;) Então, fiz um gradiente com esponja de make-up... gostei tanto que me apeteceu dar uma trinca! :p Para honrar a estação (e não levar as unhas aos dentes), carimbei o padrão com folhas e arabescos da placa Pueen Encore SE02B; usei o verniz Mundo de Uñas Brown. Adorei!!! *.*

Broken Nail... Now what?? Nail Tip & Acrygel Overlay Tutorial

Broken nail?? Oh, the horror!! I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling like that and immediately searching all about fixing that nail... or simply filing all nails down. Personally, I refuse to do that after so much effort into making my natural nails healthier (after 22 years of nail biting). There are many ways to rescue broken nails and a quick google oracle search will lead you to them. I have used many solutions as well and at the moment, I'm so pleased with the latest! With this post, I intend to explain how I fixed my nail with only a tip extension and acrygel overlay. I'm not a nail tech, therefore I like and love to learn things on the way and share my experiences.

Partiram uma unha?? Ai que horror!! hehehe Tenho a certeza que não sou a única a sentir-me assim quando parto uma :p Existem imensas formas de corrigir/salvar a unha... é só aceder ao oráculo google. Pessoalmente, recuso-me a limar todas as minhas unhas depois de tanto esforço e dedicação para as ter grandes e saudáveis (roí-as durante 22 anos). Então, experimentei umas técnicas pela primeira vez, nomeadamente pus uma tip e reforcei-a com acrigel overlay... gostei tanto do resultado que resolvi partilhar convosco a minha experiência neste (longo) tutorial.

First, what is acrygel? Acrygel is the name given when you use acrylic powder and gel base/top coat in your nails, at the same time. It's the junction of both: you get the strength provided by acrylic powder and the flexibility of the gel base/top coat. I first learned about it with Chickettes in an nice post she did. You can use the acrygel technique to help grow your natural nails while keeping them safe. There is no agression to your nail plate.

Mas antes de mais, o que é acrigel? (tomei a liberdade de traduzir o nome assim... mas se conhecem uma tradução mais adequada, contem-me!). A primeira vez que ouvi falar desta técnica foi com a blogger Chickettes, num post que ela fez. Acrigel é a junção de acrílico e verniz gel na mesma unha, obtendo-se as vantagens de ambos: força e resistência do pó acrílico e flexibilidade do verniz gel. É uma técnica usada para reforçar e dar mais protecção à unha natural, sem a danificar. Pode ser usada enquanto a unha natural cresce, ou mesmo com elas grandes e fortes, como meio de precaução. Vou fazer mudanças no fim do mês... garanto-vos que vou usar a técnica! :)

So, what did I do? I broke my nail opening a window (stupid situation as always) lol. I started preping it by filling, pushing back cuticles and removing any oil/greasiness with Mollon Pro Dehydrator Pre Nail Prep. 

Mas, como resolvi o meu problema? Parti a unha na janela... uma situação estúpida e evitável, como sempre lol. Comecei por preparar a unha: limei, empurrei as cutículas e limpei quaisquer resíduos com o Mollon Pro Dehydrator Pre Nail Prep.

Then, I placed a tip in my nail with some glue. A few words here... good materials are important! I tried a couple low cost tips & nail glues and it was awful! Not only did it pop up a couple hours later, but they were hard to blend with my natural nail ugh! I used Purple Professional Sidney tips and Purple Professional Cola para Unhas de Gel (nail glue). The tip well is quite large and I love that it is smooth and curvy. About the glue, it works fast and is the strongest I've tried so far. (see how do correctly apply a tip here)

Depois, colei a tip na minha unha natural com cola específica. Atenção, é fundamental usar bons produtos! Experimentei algumas marcas de tips e colas do chinês e correu tudo mal! Não só a tip caíu ao fim de umas horas, como ainda por cima é difícil harmonizar a tip com a unha natural. Ninguém quer a unha com altos estranhos pois não? Usei as tips Sidney da Purple Professional e Cola para Unhas de Gel da mesma marca. A tip tem um encaixe largo e sem vértices laterais que simplesmente amei! Já a cola foi também a melhor que usei até hoje - forte e de secagem veloz. (vejam como aplicar uma tip correctamente aqui)

After placing the tip, you  need to cut and file it with a coarse file. I used some nail clippers but you can also use a nail tip cutter. 

Depois de colocada a tip, o próximo passo é cortá-la (usei um corta unhas, se bem que podem usar uma guilhotina) e limei-a com uma lima de grau 180.

Now, I don't have a gel constructor and there's actually no need to for my purposes. With a tip blender and a coarse file, you can blend the tip to your nail without hurting the nail plate (use sure flat movements). This is best explained in the following video tutorial. The idea is to create a natural seam. Just be carefull and go gently on the beginning... I was harsh and lost a piece of the tip hehehe. When all is smooth, gently buff all your nail with a smooth grade buffer. I've heard that you can use acetone instead of tip blender, but that didn't work with me (not sure if it was because I used bad nail tips in first place).

Agora, o que as técnicas de unhas podem fazer é usar um gel construtor, entre outras opções. Mas não só não tenho, como para os meus propósitos não achei necessário. Isto vai da experiência de cada um, ok? :) O que fiz foi usar o tip blender da Purple Professional. Coloca-se o produto na zona do encaixe da unha e lima-se essa área com uma lima grossa. Podem ver este video tutorial porque imagens são sempre melhores. O produto em si "amolece" a região, permitindo que possamos tirar a espessura da tip a mais e homogeneizá-la com a unha natural. Ou melhor, a ideia é que fique tudo suave e sem altos. Li algures que é possível usar acetona para amolecer essa zona... mas comigo não funcionou (não sei se por ter usado tips de marcas duvidosas!). Também é possível suavizar a unha sem nenhum produto... mas é mais demorado. Outra questão muito importante é que ao limarem a tip na zona de encaixe, utilizem movimentos seguros e planos para NÃO tocar na unha natural e danificá-la! Movimentos seguros, mas gentis... aqui a minha pessoa foi bruta e ficou logo sem um bocado lateral da tip hehehe. Quando estiver tudo suave, utilizem um buffer para gentilmente harmonizarem toda a unha, parte natural incluída.

Moving on, how to protect the tip and your nail. You can simply use a base gel polish but I don't know how well it will be protected (has anyone tried it?). I used the acrygel technique because I want a strong nail and a long lasting solution! This is also explained very nicely in the following two videos by two ladies that understand this much better than me: here and here. In quick words:

1. Gently buff the nail (I had previously done this step)
2. Remove any residues and greasiness with and adequate product
3. Apply a thin layer of gel polish basecoat (I used Revel Nail Base Coat). Be sure to seal the tip but do NOT cure it. (don't touch the cuticles either)
4. Using a cuticle pusher, sprinkle acrylic clear powder in the tacky layer of the gel polish and now you can cure it (you can also dip your nail in the powder, but this was you avoid clumpy pieces and is more hygienic). 
5. Repeat steps 1 & 2 if you want to. Use thin coats to get a natural nail result;
6. Seal your nail with a gel polish top coat (I used Revel Nail Top Coat) and you're good to go! 

If you use a soak off gel polish top coat, be careful and use non-acetone remover to remove your regular nail polish. If you use the traditional one, then gently file it to break the gel seal when your growth line is visible or you simply want to remove the acrygel layers. My only problem with acrygel is that I can't use glitters with it because I remove them with pure acetone and aluminium foil :p

Continuando, como proteger a tip? Podem simplesmente usar o duo verniz gel base + top coat, mas sinceramente não faço ideia de qual a durabilidade (se souberem, contem-me tudo!). Aqui o que fiz foi a usar a técnica acrigel para ter uma solução resistente e duradora. Sugiro que vejam os videos seguintes de meninas que dominam o assunto melhor que eu: este e este ;) Mas assim por escrito, são estes os passos:

1. Limar gentilmente a unha com buffer (já tinha feito este passo anteriormente);
2. Remover resíduos e gordura da unha com produto adequado;
3. Aplicar uma camada fininha de verniz gel base (usei o Revel Nail Base Coat), selar a ponta mas NÃO curar (não tocar na cutícula);
4. Com o empurrador de cutícula ou espátula, polvilhar pó acrílico na camada de dispersão e agora sim, curar no tempo recomendado pela marca (usei o pó acrílico de um kit de reparação de unha da Orly que tinha cá por casa, mas o certo seria pó acrílico transparente). Podem mergulhar a unha dentro do pote de pó acrílico, mas isso é menos higiénico e por vezes resulta em pedaços aglomerados de pó;
5. Repetir os passos 3 e 4 se acharem necessário. Convém aplicar camadas fininhas para obter um resultado natural;
6. Selar tudo com top coat verniz gel (usei o Revel Nail Top Coat) e já está! 

Se usarem um top coat gel soak off, cuidado a usar acetona para remover o verniz normal; recomendo removedor sem acetona. Se usarem o verniz gel tradicional, têm de o limar suavemente para quebrar o selo de gel quando quiserem remover o acrigel. O meu único problema com esta técnica é que não posso usar glitters... senão estrago todo o meu trabalho porque removo glitters com acetona pura e método do papel de alumínio :p

Like I said above, the acrygel tehcnique is safe to your natural nail. But, the glue for tips is another thing. I just want to let you know that there are other methods available like silk and fiber glass to fix small breaks :) I'm currently testing Revel Nail gel polish brand, therefore I think the tip will be in place for the 2-week period of it. I'll update this post when I finish :) [EDIT: Everything stayed in place during the two weeks that I tested Revel Nail; it wasn't easy to remove though. It took me three soaking off procedures and something like half an hour to remove the acrygel properly. Next time I'll do a single coat hehehe] If you have any questions please let me know and I'll address them as best as I can. Referi acima que o método acrigel não é prejudicial para a unha; mas a cola de unhas já é um outro assunto diferente. Quero lembrar que há várias alternativas diferentes para corrigir pequenos cortes como fibra de vidro e seda. Estou de momento a fazer um teste de durabilidade da marca de verniz gel Revel Nail e acredito que a tip vai ficar segura durante este tempo.. Mas prometo actualizar aqui o post quando a tirar :) [Edição: Estou muito contente porque este método aguentou duas semanas e se calhar até aguentava mais! Removi a tip e acrygel depois de testar a marca Revel Nail; mas não foi fácil! Fiz três vezes o método soak off até o acrygel estar todo dissolvido, sendo que demorei cerca de meia hora] Se tiverem alguma questão, não hesitem em perguntar porque eu vou sempre dar o meu melhor para responder correctamente. Há várias coisas que não referi com receio de tornar este post ainda maior do que já é... Espero que este tutorial posso ajudar alguém na mesma situação que eu :) Beijinhos,
